Michigan

Well, I have been knitting a lot in the last couple of days, but I have no pictures to show for it. Chalk it up to having photo burn out. Alex and I went with his family to Michigan this weekend we took what can only be described as a shit-ton of pictures.

I will only show you five. :)

Alex and I drove up to the Ludington/Hamlin Lake area on Thursday night. We stayed in a cabin at the Hobby Crest Resort.
It was a nice cabin (three bedrooms, two baths, no tv or anything to connect you to the internet). It was right on Hamlin Lake, which was perfect for hanging out on Alex's parent's boat.

We drove into Ludington and ate at the Old Hamlin Inn, which is somewhere Alex's family would always eat at when they would vacation in Ludington in the 80's.We walked around Ludington State Park for awhile, and had a nice view of some sand dunes as well as 'the other side' of Lake Michigan:After a day of exploring a lighthouse and the state park and stuff, the next day, Alex and I (severely sun-burned and all) went swimming and climbed up a little sand dune:(Yes, I am really that sunburned).

Then, we sat around a campfire, roasted some S'mores, and enjoyed the view.It was an excellent little vacation.

In knitting news, I signed up for to knit some socks for the Sock Museum for the Sock Summit. I finished them in the car ride home today (I knit the Garter Rib pattern from Sensational Knitted Socks). I just have the two to close on sock number two (I had no knitting accessories with me, only needles and sock yarn) and they will be ready to go. I will be taking pictures of them tomorrow.

I also have been working on my Cotty socks for the STR knit-a-long on Ravelry. I am about 1/3 of the way done with sock number two on those. Maybe some pictures of those tomorrow as well.

Hope everyone had a nice relaxing weekend. I will be back tomorrow (probably) with a whole ton of sock pictures. Happy knitting!

Yarn for Sale!

Just popping in to say hello. Things have been nuts in the Knitting Like Crazy apartment lately. Mainly, Alex and I are under contract for a house! We still have to get through the home inspection and everything, but barring any disasters there, July 23 is the day we will officially be homeowners.

Alex and I have been in this apartment for five years. We are literally bursting at the seams with crap. Both of us have started the great purge. I have been continuing to sell things on Amazon (there is a knitting book there, so check it out!) and I have been putting stuff together for Salvation Army. And, I am putting all my yarn and roving on sale on Etsy.

That's right. It's all on sale!

I have adjusted all the prices (more or less 15% off) and plan to keep in that way until mid-July. Then, I will be closing the shop up for a month while we get everything moved and settled into the new house and everything.

I will now tempt you with a picture of one of the lovelies:C'mon, you know you want some sock yarn. :)

Color Collision

Sometimes a sock pattern comes along and blind-sides you out of nowhere:

Enter the Color Collision Socks!
Garter stitch toe! Fun!
A colorful treat for the feet!

It's the Color Collision socks from the new(-ish) book Knitting Socks with Handpainted Yarn. I am using some STR Lightweight (Storytime colorway) that has been marienating in the stash for about a year now.

I started these socks about a week ago and have been faithful to them all week. I am about halfway down the foot on sock number two. If they don't get done tonight, I definitely think they will be finished up during my classy evening at Ravinia with the Grayslake crew tomorrow night. Not much makes me happier than having a picnic, enjoying some good music with some good friends, and some good wine (but not too much if I want to finish the sock, or course) all rolled into one.

Sunday should be ok too. Probably a little knitting, a little working (I have to work Saturday and Sunday. Icky, but Sock Summit is less than two months away and the OT is nice), and maybe some practicing of that golf swing.

Hope everyone has a good weekend. Happy knitting!

The Office Swap

I am pretty sure I have talked about this on the blog before. I love the tv show The Office. It is one of my favorites ever. I can rewatch episodes twenty times and not get sick of it. That being said, when The Office Swap Round 2 came around on Ravelry, I had to sign up again. I had so much fun the first time so why not!

Here are some pics of my incredible package:

What's that? A My First Jim Crocheted doll with accessories!?!?!? So awesome. I loved everything. And, I was so excited to get some sock yarn (this sock yarn diet is becoming harder and harder by the day. This definitely took the edge off). It's Alpaca Sox, a yarn I have never used before and been dying to try.

Thanks, Emily!

Warshrags

Well, on Sunday me and the G-town ladies went up to Milwaukee for Mel's bridal shower. We had a great time. It was wonderful see Mel, and it was wonderful to be able to give her some knitted goodness:I made her a bunch of warshrags (and I gifted her a table in a bag, so we can match when we go to Ravinia on the 13th. And honestly, everyone should have one of those. They are awesome!) Basically, it was some Mason Dixon knitting up in here. There was a ballband, a nine-patch, a mitered hanging towel, a baby genius warshrag, and a good ol' Mason Dixon dishcloth. A lovely collection if you ask me.

I have to be honest, I don't always knit for people for their various showers and celebrations. In some cases the people got married or whatever before I could really knit, or sometimes it's because I know the person will not really appreciate it.

There was no question that I would knit for Mel. She is a good egg. She appreciates this stuff so so much. And, I know they will be well-loved and used.

Anyone else have lots of wedding/baby knitting to do this summer? :)

Rick Socks

Ok, I finally finished my Rick socks. I have been working on them for quite awhile (more like they sat in my knitting bag for over a month untouched) and I am happy they are done. I really loved this pattern. And, I loved the yarn. A very good combination.

Hello. My name is Rick.
I am very pretty.
But not as pretty as Rick Astley, of course. :)

Here are some specs:
The Pattern: Rock Socks by Cookie A (from Sock Innovation)
The Yarn: Zen Yarn Garden Squooshy Yarn
The Needles: US Size 2 (2.75mm) dpns
The Time to Knit: 2 months (again, sitting in the knitting bag most of that time)
The Notes: There is some errata for this pattern here. When I was knitting the first sock, I thought something was slightly wrong in the pattern, but you know me, I just went ahead and worked it out and assumed it was my faulty math or something. At least I know now I was not crazy or had lost the ability to count. :)

Other than that, I will be giving my stealth knitting to the intended recipient today, so I can blog about that soon. Now to decide what socks to knit next. Hmm....

Sock Summit.

Can I just say how excited I am for Sock Summit!? I know there were problems today with registration (like everyone else, there was a moment where I wanted to rip my hair out), but unbelievably I got everything I wanted. It took awhile and several tries (and several panicked voicemails to my friend, Jenni) but I got everything. Jenni got into some things too (she did not get "Sock Summit Scenario A" like I did, but I think she will be happy in the end with the trip).

Everything is coming together very well for the journey to Portland. Jenni and I have the hotel reservation made, the plan tickets purchased, and the classes picked and paid for. A few months ago when this whole Sock Summit thing came up, I didn't really think we would go. I mean, we talked about it, but I didn't really think we would make it a reality. But, I am so glad we are going. A few days in a new place with lots and lots and lots of knitters (and sock knitters at that)? Yes, please!

Anyway, here is the stuff I plan on taking/attending while at the Sock Summit:

  • Thursday Afternoon: Arch Shaped Stockings with Meg Swanson and Amy Detjen
Thursday Evening: Opening Welcome Dinner Thingy
  • Friday Morning: The Perfect Rib with Cookie A
    Friday Evening: Sock Hop
  • Sunday Morning: Beaded Cables with Sivia Harding
    Sunday Afternoon: Luminary Panel
I think we are going to have a fabulous time.

A very knitty birthday. . . .

Well, it's about time I show off all the knit-related goodies I got for my birthday.

First, I got some books:
And, my friend, Jenni got me some sock yarn (she knows I am on a sock yarn diet, and that I have been strong and not bought any since December, so she decided to provide me with a sock yarn fix):And, then I got this:A Jordana Paige bag! I have been wanting one for, like, three years. Alex was a good egg and got it for me. He also gave me a KnitKit. He actually went to Loopy Yarns to buy them. I think there might have been some ladies in there that wanted to steal my boyfriend. :)

It was definitely a good birthday!
